Freedom of Speech

Week 5 Freedom Of Expression                 Freedom of expression to me is, being able to say and do what you want within the law and not be prosecuted for it.  In the RIP movie I felt to conflicted between two arguments about how the copyright system is way to overbearing and was especially influenced by Disney to extend it to make sure they could keep the monopoly on Micky and others.  But I also believe that if you create something that it should be yours and yours alone you came up with it by yourself so why should anyone else get to profit off it or use it for themselves without paying you for it.  There was a part in the movie RIP the I could not agree with and that was when the daycare was using Micky and other Disney characters likeness and Disney got made and sued them for it.  I felt that it was a bit much and Also the daycare never said that it was Micky therefor it could have been any mouse and friends.  the copy right law is full of gray areas for me because

Ryan Darling Journalism 201 Blog Project #1 Professor Priewe It’s A Tide Ad Description  During the 2018 Super Bowl there were quite a few great commercials that stuck with the audience.  There were beer commercials, car commercials and of course commercials about  Amazon’s ALEXA.   But among all of those great commercials there was one that stuck out to me and many others.  This ad was funny, well timed and perfectly executed.  The ad I am referring to of course is the Tide ad.  The ad begins as the sun is setting on a beautiful mountain road as an unmarked car is rushing by, as the camera cuts inside the car to your surprise David Harbour who plays (Chief Hopper on  Stranger Things ) starts talking to you about how this is “just your typical Super Bowl car ad right?”  cut to the next scene and a beer is sliding down the bar to again David Harbour, only to have it fall off the bar and the whole bar laughs.  The next scene looks like a glimpse into haven Where Davi

ADS Week3

By: Ryan Darling  Details: This week we were tasked to find a brand that is using social media to promote their brand in a very effective way.  I chose IHop or IHob now,  this company if you didn't already know is known as a breakfast chain around the world.  recently they decided to change their name from IHop to IHob.  Ihop standing for international house of pancakes and IHob standing for international house of burgers.  They made this change to show that they are not just a pancake restaurant but they also serve great burgers.  What was really amazing was their marketing.  They could have just said on twitter of facebook "Hey Ihop here,  just letting you all know we server burgers too." But instead they did something remarkable,  they changed the name of their store which started a media explosions the likes of which we have never seen.  Instead of spending advertising dollars on making commercials and ads they had people spread the word for them.  In Seth G

The Internet Week 2

The Internet  By:Ryan Darling  For this weeks discussion about the internet we were tasked to go online to our favorite social media sites and come up with a few notable people to follow and research.  The people I chose were people or businesses I am interested in and who are for the most part famous and well known.  Topic 1 My first selection was a person who I really look up to in the business world because of his brilliance and drive he was able to start many million and even billion dollar companies.  He is on the forefront of technology and innovation.  This man is Elon Musk,  Musk became a multi-multi-millionare in his twenties and is now worth more then 19 billion dollars.  My favorite tweet the Musk posted was when he was promoting his Boring company's flame-throwers.  He says "Obviously, a flamethrower is a super terrible idea. Definitely don't buy one."  "Unless you like fun."  Why I liked this tweet is because it made me laugh th
